Seretide Diskus (Advair) is a combined inhaled medication used for treating baseline therapy in conditions with obstructive respiratory issues, such as bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

 

Salmeterol Xinafoate is part of a category of drugs known as long-acting bronchodilators. It works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of the small airways in the lungs, helping to open the airways for easier air flow in and out of the lungs. The effects of Salmeterol Xinafoate generally last for a minimum of twelve hours, and when used consistently, it helps keep the small air passages open, which is why it is referred to as a 'protector'.

 

Fluticasone Propionate belongs to a class of medications known as corticosteroids, commonly called 'steroids'. These drugs are utilized to manage respiratory issues due to their anti-inflammatory properties. They help decrease swelling and irritation in the walls of the small airways in the lungs, thereby alleviating breathing difficulties. Corticosteroids also work to prevent asthma attacks, which is why they are referred to as 'preventers'. Fluticasone Propionate should be taken on a regular daily basis.

 

Baseline therapy for diseases associated with obstructive respiratory issues (including bronchial asthma in both children and adults) is sensible when combined therapy is indicated: for patients receiving long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonists alongside inhaled glucocorticosteroids; for patients currently undergoing inhaled glucocorticosteroid therapy who are experiencing symptoms; and for patients regularly using bronchodilators who require inhaled glucocorticosteroid treatment for medical reasons.
